John Deere brings training closer to employees
In response to dealers wanting more training for their employees closer to home, John Deere turned to an innovative mobile classroom trailer, appropriately named the ‘Road Scholars Mobile Training Facility.” Featherlite translated the dynamic vision of John Deere – to take the company “where the action is” into a mobile unit that has the multi-media technology of a modern college or corporate classroom.
Complete with infrared audio-visual equipment, laptop computers, a 50-inch television screen that rises at the touch of a button, PowerPoint software and a digital satellite system that connects to each computer, the mobile unit is issued for both employee training and customer education.
Implement & Tractor magazine noted that the “lights, audio systems and video screens make it possible to hold two outdoor classes, one on each side of the trailer,” while inside a third class can be conducted.
“It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen – training wise,” said Mitch Nordmeyer, parts manager for Waterloo Implement in Waterloo, Iowa.
He calls the Featherlite-built unit a “state-of-the-art, one-of-a-kind and top-of-the-line classroom on wheels.” The dramatic graphics on the side of the trailer add to the “sense of event” wherever the unit goes, and at the same time it heralds the John Deere brand as it travels through thousands of communities a year.
The 53-foot custom Featherlite semi-trailer expands to a 22’ x 28’ classroom that can seat up to 16 students at tables or 40 students theatre style. According to Implement & Tractor, the mobile unit cuts dealer training costs and improves participation.
