Embraer flies high with mobile display trailer
One of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers, Embraer, deployed a Featherlite mobile marketing trailer, containing an actual airplane fuselage, to introduce their new jet to corporate executives during a 20-city tour.
Regina Robillard, account executive at fd2s West, the marketing firm handling the tour, said the goal of the tour was to catch executives just getting off their private jets. They usually had about 15 minutes to interest the potential customer.
Fd2s parked the trailer at airports in 20 cities, including St. Louis, San Francisco and Dallas. Embraer estimates 2,000 people walked through the trailer. They normally received four to six legitimate leads in each city, according to Doug Oliver, Embraer’s director of corporate communications in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
It’s a slow process that can take a year or longer before an exec decides to purchase. But if even one of the 80-120 leads found in the 20 cities buys, that can be as much as a $5 million dollar profit on the plane itself, or a 1,000 percent return on the cost of the event.
That’s flying high – even for a jet.

- It took eight weeks to design the trailer’s exterior. Appealing and high flying graphics attracted an audience wherever it traveled.
- To view the trailer, the overhead door of the trailers opens up to expose the fuselage and stairs descend from the side of the trailer.
- The actual fuselage in this trailer begins at the pilot’s back wall and continues to the rear. It includes passenger seats, bathrooms and everything in between, allowing potential buyers to test the product.
